It’s date night. A time to stare into one another’s eyes, reignite the spark, or set it burning like a furnace with a new amour.
A pub simply won’t do. But there are plenty of romantic restaurants in Sydney that will.
Romantic Restaurants
What says romance like Italian? What says luxury like sophisticated Japanese?
Whatever you’re craving, Crown has it on the menu of romantic restaurants in the heart of the city. Here are some of the very best.
A’mare
A’mare itself is romantic – a beautiful marriage of Australian fare with Italian ingredients. This location has been awarded with no less than two prestigious Chef Hats from the Good Food Guide Awards.
The name means ‘by the sea’, which takes on a fresh meaning as you sit at this harbour-side spot in a dining room inspired by the palazzos of old-school Italy.
For the ultimate romantic meal, opt for Da Condividere. This option is made to share, and features several of the restaurant’s best dishes.
Woodcut
Wood. Charcoal. Steam.
Those are the driving forces behind Woodcut, and there’s something intoxicatingly romantic about a menu that celebrates and showcases meals cooked with these simple fuels. The entire concept is about the memories evoked by meals cooked in a slow, wood burning oven or over an open fire.
You can sit at the chef’s counter to watch the masters at work, or tuck yourselves away in a romantic corner to enjoy no-ones company but each other’s. Just be sure to look away long enough to appreciate the vertical garden and views of Sydney Harbour in this restaurant where every seat is the best in the house.
Nobu
You know the name, now know the meals. Nobu is an internationally renowned restaurant, where Japanese sophistication has been struck by cupid’s bow and fused with Peruvian cuisine.
Influential chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa is the ingenious mind behind it all, from the Black Cod Miso to the Yellowtail Jalapeno. These are combinations you never knew you needed, and ones that are best experienced with your own other half.
For something extra special, book one of the private dining rooms at Nobu.
Yoshi Omakase
Yoshi Omakase is something truly special. It’s not its own restaurant, but an event within a restaurant. You’ll find it inside Nobu, where Chef Ryuichi Yoshii has curated an exclusive, multi-course sushi menu.
And it’s only available for up to ten guests.
You’ll marvel together at Yoshii’s mastery of Omakase dining, wonder at the fresh seasonal produce, and almost suspect you’ve unlocked tastebuds you never knew you had.
Be ready at noon on the dot on the first day of each month to secure your reservation.
Oncore by Clare Smyth
Oncore by Clare Smyth is so romantic it could make a bouquet of roses jealous.
It’s what you get when you combine the most spectacular views in Sydney with an intimate, luxurious dining space, and dishes devised by a chef who holds three Michelin stars in the UK. In fact, Clare Smyth is the first and only British female chef to have achieved such a feat.
We at Crown may be biassed about the sheer impressiveness of this restaurant, but La Liste Awards certainly aren’t – and they named Oncore as one of the top fifty restaurants in the world.
Try the signature ‘Potato and Roe’ dish for sophistication and simplicity, and don’t miss ‘Coreteaser’ for a dessert inspired by Clare’s favourite sweet treat, the Malteser.

Fancy a Drink?
There’s something about a drink in an intimate bar that will help you get to know one another better than anything. Bars offer a space for deep talks and subtle flirting, and Crown offers some of the most romantic bars in Sydney.
CIRQ Bar & Lounge
Take your date to the next level on the 26th level of Crown Sydney at CIRQ Bar & Lounge.
Boasting a Bar of the Year (Deluxe) Award, views over the waterfront, and a luxurious open terrace, this is a bright, airy, and consistently booked-out space. The wine menu is extensive, the cocktails are infused with native Australian botanicals, and the seafood plates are especially popular.
You’ll need to book a month or two in advance, but that only means more time to get excited about this surreal, romantic bar in the sky.
Teahouse
Step into a fairytale romance at Teahouse. All whimsical decadence and playful spaces, Teahouse promises guests an escape from the real world and a taste of magic, both in the glass and on the plate.
Book a birdcage for you and your date for something sweet and wonderful, and choose a champagne from the extensive list of bubbles. Try a specialty tea or oriental bite for something a little different, and expect the unexpected at every turn.
